The ALP's site www.alp.org.au has a lot of the history and background of the party as well as the structure and the different units of the Party.

The great thing about the ALP is that while it is a Federal Party and while it has brought to the Australian people some of the most forward thinking Prime Ministers, Premiers and Governments, it is very much a local Party - a Party with a firm presence in the grassroots of Australian life. There is a branch of the ALP in almost every part of this great country of ours and there are several branches for you to choose from in our local area.

Local Hotham ALP Contacts

Branches of the ALP are at the coal face. It is the branches that provide the basic structure of the Party and which allow members to become active and involved. Branches provide forums to listen to interesting guest speakers, engage in rigorous debate, enjoy social contact and organise members to help with election campaigns.

There are a number of branches of the ALP in the Hotham Electorate and you are able to join any of these branches you prefer. Many people have found that the best way to choose a branch is to go along to one or two different branches and see which one you like. Once you've made up your mind, the Branch President and Secretary will be happy to organise your membership.
