We, rank and file members of the Australian Labor Party, demonstrating the will and capacity to stand up against the dictates of self appointed factional bosses, affirm our commitment to the following principles:

Local communities matter
Local communities matter in politics and political representatives must be connected with and have the confidence of their community. We will champion our community. Accordingly:

• we will ensure local members are genuinely involved in policy making relevant to our community;
• we will embrace Labor’s national priorities and localise them in our community;
• we will identify local priorities and develop an agreed program of initiatives relevant to the area; and
• we will work with appropriate local community and business organisations to advance these priorities.

Local ALP members matter
Local members matter and have a vital contribution to make to the ALP, particularly in supporting Labor candidates. We insist on the right to participate in selecting candidates to represent the ALP in state and federal elections. Accordingly:

• we will ensure that selection of Labor candidates for office to represent the area will occur only after consultation with local party members;
• we will oppose any attempt to pre-empt local processes and work to ensure that there is no overturning by central panel votes of a clear majority for local candidates; and
• we will conduct forums to enable elected representatives to provide information, report back and follow up on relevant issues.

Good causes matter
We share Labor’s commitment to social justice, reform and opportunity for all. We will support good causes - regardless of faction.

Values matter
Good values do matter in politics - the most important of which are integrity, honesty, fairness, respect and loyalty. We will uphold these values.
