Simon campaigned for and won the seat of Hotham in 1990. After his election to the Federal Parliament he established an office in Atherton Street, Oakleigh. Simon's office is now located at 401 Clayton Road, Clayton. He was re-elected as the Federal Member for Hotham in the elections of 1993, 1996, 1998, 2001 and 2004.
Simon's professional time is divided between his work in our local community, in the Federal Parliament and as Shadow Trade and Regional Development Minister. His work in the local community involves Simon meeting with individuals, businesses, local councils, clubs and organisations to discuss their concerns and to help them find solutions to problems they might be experiencing.

Named after Sir Charles Hotham, former Governor of Victoria, this seat was created in 1968. The electorate covers parts of the Cities of Kingston, Glen Eira, Monash and Greater Dandenong. It includes in part or in full, the suburbs of Bentleigh East, Bentleigh, Clayton, Clayton South, Cheltenham, Carnegie, Dingley Village, Springvale, Springvale South, Oakleigh, Oakleigh South, Moorabbin, Noble Park, Highett, Mentone, Heatherton, Bentleigh and Mordialloc. It is surrounded by the electorates of Bruce, Holt, Isaacs, Goldstein, Higgins and Chisholm. Hotham is residential and industrial.
